Frequently Asked Questions for Editors

What is a ZeroFlaws Editor?
ZeroFlaws Editors are independent contractors hired to modify images provided by ZeroFlaws customers through the website www.ZeroFlaws.com.  Editors are expected to perform digital modifications to the provided images as specified by the customer in as realistic a fashion as possible.  Realism is the goal; artistic freedoms outside the specified modifications are discouraged.  Editors need to keep in mind that the customers have the right to either return the work to the original or an alternate Editor, or refuse payment altogether.

How do I apply to become an Editor?
People can find an Editor application form under the “careers” tab within the ZeroFlaws site.  Here is a link: https://www.ZeroFlaws.com/careers.html.

Where can I find a detailed explanation of the ZeroFlaws Editor position?
The ZeroFlaws Editor Legal Terms and Conditions are included in the Editor application on the “careers” page mentioned above, and must be agreed to prior to becoming a ZeroFlaws Editor.

Why do I need to provide my Social Security Number as an Editor?
Social Security Numbers are needed for tax purposes, as stated in our Terms and Conditions.  ZeroFlaws complies with the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, requiring to report payments to individuals.  ZeroFlaws shall report all such payments to the IRS, requiring the use of Editor Social Security Numbers.  The ZeroFlaws Editor Legal Terms and Conditions are included in the Editor application on the “careers” page.

Why is ZeroFlaws only accepting Editor applications from the United States?Currently, ZeroFlaws is prepared to do business with Editors only from the United States because of the above tax requirements.  All Editors must provide a valid United States Social Security Number to receive payment from ZeroFlaws.

If I fail the Editor application, can I re-apply?
Yes, although please keep in mind that ZeroFlaws has records of past applications and reserves the right to deny acceptance to those deemed not capable of providing adequate work.

How do I log into my ZeroFlaws Editor Queue page?
Once an applicant has been approved as an Editor, they can log into the ZeroFlaws Editor site using the following link: https://ZeroFlaws.com/editor_queue/, or by clicking on the “Editor Login” link at the bottom of the www.ZeroFlaws.com front page.  Editors use the email address and password stated during the application process to log into their personal Editor Queue page.

What is contained in my Editor Queue page?
The Editor Queue page is personalized by each Editor, and contains the following information:

  • My Active Jobs (List of Jobs currently being worked on, or “In-Review” by customer)
  • Unassigned Jobs (List of jobs available to Editor from master list provided by ZeroFlaws)
  • Message Center (Internal messaging system setup by ZeroFlaws staff to communicate with Editors without using email)
  • My Personal Info (Lists the current personal information of the Editor; address, email, phone#’s, etc...can be changed by Editor to update file)
  • My Earnings (Summary of earnings, jobs completed, and “Request Check” function to receive payment for completed jobs)
  • Performance Summary (Contains Editors Average Turnaround Time, and Average Customer Rating, along with the highest performing Editor scores for comparison)

Why don’t I have any jobs in my Unassigned Jobs Queue?
There should always be at least one job available to every Editor.  As explained in the “Average Turnaround Time and Average Customer Rating” answer below, work can be preferentially assigned to Editors with the best scores for time and rating.  If an Editor is new to ZeroFlaws, it is likely there will be only a few jobs present by design.  Use these jobs to create good scores to increase your overall Editor Rating as summarized in the Editor Queue.  If no Job is available, you can specifically request one through the Messaging Center found in the Editor Queue.

Can jobs be pre-screened by Editors prior to selection for editing?
Yes, the thumbnails in the Unassigned Queue can be clicked on the review the job prior to selection.

How do Editors receive ZeroFlaws jobs?
Jobs in the Unassigned Jobs queue can be added to the Editor’s Active Queue by selecting the “Select Job” button corresponding to that job.

Are Editors provided software to complete the jobs?
No, Editors are required to use their own software to complete the jobs.  ZeroFlaws does not specify the type of editing software to be used, and it is up to the individual Editor’s preference.

Are there different levels of Editors?
Yes...1, 2, and 3.  Level 3 being the most difficult (and highest paying) jobs available.  Based on the customer’s requirements, jobs are categorized into the three categories.  Editors will only have access to the job level they have been qualified to complete.  Initial evaluation of Editor capabilities is done during the Editor application process, but Editors can climb the level ladder by requesting an evaluation of their recent work through the Messaging Center found in the Editor Queue.  Editors have access to work on all jobs at or below their current level.

How does “Average Turnaround Time” and “Average Customer Rating” affect Editors?
Editors are ranked based on Average Turnaround Time and Average Customer Rating.  ZeroFlaws uses this data to determine Editor performance, and can preferentially assign work to Editors accordingly.  Each of these parameters is based of the Editors most recent 5 jobs, except in the instance of customer refusal to pay (explained below).  It should be an Editors priority to complete jobs as quickly and with the highest quality as possible, every time.

Is there a time limit for Editors to complete jobs?
As a rule, Editors should only select a job when they have time to work on it in one sitting.  In the interest of keeping each Editor’s Average Turnaround Time low, the jobs should be completed within a few hours.  Proficient Editors may find that level1 jobs may take on the order of 10 minutes.  If an Editor has retained a job for a 12-hour period, they will be notified via internal Message Center and email that they need to complete the job, or submit it back to the Unassigned Jobs queue while earning a time equivalent to the time the job was held in their Active Queue. After 24-hours, the job will be forced back into the Unassigned Jobs queue and the Editor’s account will be evaluated for termination. It is discouraged to hold jobs for any longer than 5 hours.

What types of jobs should Editors expect?
ZeroFlaws does not screen every job submitted by customers. There is the possibility that jobs may appear in the Unassigned Jobs queue that will be offensive to some Editors.  Editors may preview the available by clicking on the corresponding thumbnail.  Most of ZeroFlaws customers submit photos of people, facial photography (headshots), or damaged photos.

How do Editors know when jobs are available?
Editors must routinely check the Unassigned Jobs queue in their personal Editor Queue page to see what jobs are available to them. Occasionally, ZeroFlaws staff will send emails to individual Editors informing them of available jobs.

How much money does an Editor make for each completed job?
Each job will contain a summary of the “Service Level” involved in completing the modifications when found in the Unassigned Queue.  For instance, a job may contain one “level 1" requirement (remove red-eye), as well as one “level 2” (modify facial features) modification, and the pay would be cumulative (level 1 plus level 2).  The dollar amount is fixed for every level of modification (found on the Pay Scale summary under the Unassigned Jobs queue in the Editor Queue page).  Each job has a dollar amount attached to it, so the Editors know exactly how much they will be paid for every job.

What if a customer refuses to pay for a completed job?
Customers are never required to pay for a job.  If a customer refuses to pay for a job, the work will be reviewed by the ZeroFlaws Quality department, and if deemed acceptable, the Editor will still get paid.  If the Editor did not complete all the requirements specified, the Editor will not get paid.  ZeroFlaws keeps records of the latter occurrences, which can have an effect on Editor’s status.

How do I know how much money each job is worth?
Each job in the Unassigned Jobs queue (found on the Editor Queue page) has a dollar amount attached to it, so the Editors can easily scan how much they will be paid for each job.

How do Editors get paid?
Editors can request payment by clicking the “Request Check” tab in their Editor Queue page.  This action will send ZeroFlaws an invoice for the work performed.  Funds are wire-transferred to the Editor’s bank account on file with ZeroFlaws.  It is each Editor’s responsibility to maintain a bank account which can accept wire-transfers from a United States bank and to keep Editor’s bank account information current with ZeroFlaws.

How often do Editors get paid?
Editors can request payment anytime, but no more frequently than every 2-weeks.  If an account has not been accessed (performed jobs or requested payments) for over 18 months, the account will be considered abandoned, and an email notification will be sent to the Editor’s email address on file with ZeroFlaws.  If the funds are not claimed within 6 months of the email notification, such funds will become property of ZeroFlaws.

Are ZeroFlaws Editors ZeroFlaws employees?
No, ZeroFlaws Editors are independent contractors contracted to digitally modify images per instructions provided by a customer through ZeroFlaws.

Do Editors interact with ZeroFlaws customers?
Editors do not interact directly with customers; however Editors can add notes to jobs for the customers to read.  Typical notes would be niceties to ensure acceptance of the photo, but some notes could be an explanation of difficult feature, or reasons for using certain approaches if needed.
